Calling all kids! Do you have what it takes to create your own spooky Halloween story?
The Courier and Scone Palace are partnering in a scarily exciting competition to find a young writer with a terrifying tale to tell.
We’re looking for just the right story to grab us – a combination of spine-tingling and page-turning. So if you’re ghoulishly inclined and a whizz with words and storytelling, we want to hear from you!
The deadline for entries is Monday October 16. The winner will be invited to a preview reception on October 26 at the Palace, receive tickets for the show, and get a family season pass for 2018.
They’ll have their story published on this website plus they’ll get the chance to do their own personal video review of the Spirits of Scone event!
How to enter
Did you know that Scotland, and in particular Perthshire, has no end of inspiration for young writers with a fascination for the gory? This year’s Spirits of Scone event, which runs from October 27-31, features characters inspired by all sorts of creepy folklore, from healer-turned-witch Bessie Wright to Christie-Cleek, a cannibal butcher.
So go ahead – create your very own Spirit of Scone in a story of no more than 500 words. Feel free to draw on real history, or use your pure imagination.
The competition is open to children aged 9 to 12 (P4 to P7).
Email your entry to firstname.lastname@example.org stating your name, age and a contact email and phone number by Monday October 16.
Good luck - and happy, ghoulish writing!
