Lord and Lady Mansfield were joined by Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP and members of Stormontfield Community Association for the official switch on of the Stormontfield Community Broadband Service.
With support from the Scottish Government through Perth and Kinross Council, a grant was secured which was matched by the local community and donations from Lord and Lady Mansfield. With this support behind the project, a technical solution was found through broadband experts Broadway Partners.
Now, a network of transmitters and recievers has been intalled to deliver a constant 30 mbps with the ability to provide a gigabit speed for the community compared to a less reliable 1-2 Mbps which is what residents of Stormontfield were used to before.
Approximately half of residents have already signed up to the new service and that is expected to increase in the coming months as the benefits of the faster broadband are seen.
Mr Swinney did the honours and switched on the new gigabit speed broadband today from Stormontfield Community Association HQ today. Great (and speedy) news for local residents in Stormontfield!
