This summer, Scone Palace are inviting green-fingered children to participate in a Kids Summer Garden Club taking place in the Palace gardens throughout the school holidays.
The club will give children the chance to spend time in the Kitchen Garden and learn from Scone Palace’s gardening experts all while exploring the Grounds and its beautiful natural surroundings.
A new addition to Scone Palace’s series of summer events and activities, the Kids Summer Garden Club has been introduced after the success of a project between Scone Palace and Robert Douglas Memorial School in Scone where a group of children will visit the Palace gardens every year and learn about planting, potting and growing vegetables. Last year’s pupil visit was featured on the BBC’s Beechgrove Garden.
Suitable for children aged from 9-12 years old, there are lots of green-fingered activities being planned for the club including vegetable garden planting and sowing, planting seeds and even a spot of weeding too! There will also be craft activities and learning about identifying trees and conifers.
The project to create a Kids Summer Garden Club has been led by Scone Palace’s Head Gardener, Brian Cunningham, who is looking forward to offering something different for children to do this summer. Brian said:
“After working with Robert Douglas Memorial School last year, we got lots of feedback that the pupils had really enjoyed visiting Scone Palace and learning a bit more about gardening. With this in mind, we decided to start a club where children could spend some time in our Kitchen Garden helping to grow vegetables for our Palace Coffee Shop and learn from our gardening team during the summer holidays.
“We are delighted to be able to encouraging young people to get into gardening, either for fun at home or maybe as a career one day. It’s a real buzz to see the kids having fun planting seeds and learning about all the plants and trees we have here at Scone Palace.”
The Kids Summer Garden Club will take place every on Thursdays on the 9th, 16th, 23rd and 20th July and the 6th and 13th August from 9.30am-1.00pm. Places are limited to 10 per weekly session and costs £12 per week or book all 6 weeks and get one week free. To book a place please call 01738 552300.
