Scone Palace has announced details of a packed programme of events for 2013, with many new and exclusive to the Crowning Place of Scottish Kings.
Elspeth Bruce, Administrator at the Palace says: “Buoyed by the spectacular success of events such as the 80’s Rewind Festival and PotFest International Ceramics Festival, we were delighted to end last season ranked as Perth’s top visitor attraction on TripAdvisor. This season promises to be another very busy one for us as we launch our biggest programme of events ever”
The season kicks off in style with Scone’s popular Easter Weekend from 29th – 31st March, with Easter fun and games each day for all the family including hunting for Easter Eggs, Chicks and Bunnies hidden in the Palace grounds and Murray Star Maze. To tempt the taste buds there’ll be a sizzling Hog Roast and a fabulous range of outdoor eating options
Also taking place over Easter Weekend is the popular Galloway Antiques Fair, with stalls displaying items for sale throughout the Palace Staterooms. The Fair is always a great place to browse for bargains from nationally known antiques and fine art dealers.
May 18th sees the return of Breast Cancer Care’s Pink Ribbonwalk, when people of all ages are being invited to come and take part in a beautiful 10 or 20 mile circular walk along fantastic trails through the grounds in and around Scone Palace to support those affected by breast cancer.
“Breast cancer is a disease that affects many people and we have been delighted to host the Pink Ribbonwalk at Scone Palace for the last five years”, says Elspeth. “Not only is the walk itself great fun, but taking part helps to raise money for a very worthy cause. Last year’s Scone Palace Ribbonwalk was a phenomenal success with over £250,000 raised for Breast Cancer Care”
Hot on the heels of the GWCT Scottish Game Fair (5th – 7 th July), which this year celebrates its 25th anniversary, the BBC Antiques Roadshow will be holding one of its special Valuation Days at the Palace on the 9th of July. The show's presenter, Fiona Bruce, will be on hand with the team of experts to discover the history and stories behind family heirlooms and car boot bargains alike.
July also sees the welcome return of the 80s Rewind Festival, which this year boasts another impressive line-up of the crème de la crème of 80s pop artists, including Ali Campbell’s UB40, OMD, Jason Donovan and many more!
On Sunday 4th August, the Palace’s first ever Family Fun Day will take place, with family entertainment and activities throughout the grounds. The following weekend (Sunday 11th), the Parkinson's UK charity walk, which features a choice of distances to suit all ages and abilities, will raise much-needed funds for people with Parkinson's in Scotland.
15th September will be another first for Scone, as the UK’s leading series of womenonly bike rides comes to the Palace. Cycletta Scotland will see hundreds of women take to two wheels, racing over distances ranging from 20k - 70k. Supported by Olympic Gold medallist Victoria Pendleton, Cycletta is designed for women of all ages and abilities and provides the perfect opportunity for some mother-daughter bonding!
ver the weekend of 21st – 22nd September, things turn spicy as Scotland’s first ever Chilli Festival comes to Scone. A celebration of all things chilli-related, the Great Scottish Brave Chilli Festival 2013 will give chilli lovers a fantastic opportunity to taste and enjoy all the wonders of the hottest chilli products from the UK and around the world. Festival-goers will be able to buy chilli plants and seeds, as well as indulge in plenty of tastings including curries, stuffed chilli, paellas, wraps & snacks, chilli vodka cocktails, chilli beer, chilli sauces, breads, chutneys, chilli chocolate, ice cream and fruit juices and much more!
