Silk Route Cycle

In February 2015, Tess and Francesca Monteith set out to cycle from Shanghai to Venice in aid of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. They followed the ancient Silk Route for 5000 miles through the deserts of China, the fable tracing cities of Central Asia to the Caspian Sea. They then crossed the Caucasus, the Black Sea Coast of Turkey and, to finish, the Balkans, arriving in Venice some four and a half months after starting out.

Tucked into her pannier bags along with the life support system of good quality Earl Grey tea bags, was Tess’ sketchbook and a small paint box. The collection was the result of the paintings inspired by her trip.
